England if I did a show like this they would think:
"Oh God, it is so obvious." Putting
a skull in a painting is too obvious. Because
a skull means death. But here they understand
that a skull is a metaphor of transient life because
Mexico has such a long history loaded with imagery.
In North America I would also have problems with
this show because they are so afraid of death,
they hate this, they cannot look at a skull; they
feel like they are under attack. It's more to
do with a sense of humor failure than anything
else.

is so poetic, while sculpture is more logical
and scientific and makes you worry about gravity.

do, and why not? It's not sensational for the

very hard as an artist to admit you have a desire
to be famous. To be an artist is not about fame;
it's about art, which is this intangible thing
that has got to have lots of integrity, whereas
being famous doesn't really take any integrity.
But I think you have to admit that you want to
be famous, otherwise you can't be an artist. Art
and fame together are like a desire to live forever.

did an installation called Pharmacy, and now I'm
doing it as a restaurant.. I just want to make
it a great place to be. Whether that's art or
not, I don't know. What I do know is it's fulfilling
all my needs as an artist. I think it's art.
